School Events – Summer Term 2024

The KS2 children put on a fabulous stage production of Alice in Wonderland which they performed for parents, staff and BFS children. They worked extremely hard to learn their lines and moves and everyone enjoyed the colourful and joyous shows they put on. The amazing FoBFS team put on some wonderful refreshments to keep everyone cool in the summer heat. Well done to everyone involved, you were all truly amazing.

On Tuesday 11th June, all KS2 children attended II Giardino Dell’Orco on the banks of Lago d’Averno and took part in a number of activities linked to nature, the environment, food and cooking. They had a fantastic tour of the site and learned about the produce grown there. They picked lots of tasty vegetables and made their own pizzas from the produce they had harvested. All children and staff had a thoroughly fantastic time. Well done to all involved and to FoBFS for assisting with funding the transport fees.

The children and staff have had a wonderful week celebrating wellness week which tied in perfectly with the Olympic Themed Sports Day held on 22 May. The children enjoyed assemblies with some inspirational and amazing people, including a Pentathlete, and a Paralympian skiing guide. Sgt Gary Smith, the Paralympian ski guide won bronze and silver Olympic medals at the Beijing Olympics with his visually impaired partner, Menna Fitzpatrick. More information can be found here. The children also enjoyed a visit from the Royal Artillery Rugby Community Outreach Team on Fri 17th May who engaged with the children and led a fantastic Tag rugby session which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The children were reminded of the importance of drinking plenty of water and eating healthy foods over the course of the week and participated in lots of fun activities in class to enrich this important topic. Well done to everyone involved.

The children had a wonderful morning taking part in the Olympic themed sports day. They were split into 4 teams; Africa, Asia, Americas and Oceania. To begin with, children took part in a round robin style medley of events; from shotput, hurdles, javelin throwing and long jump to football and hockey dribbling skills. At half time, the children enjoyed a cool off in their classrooms with ice pops and the grown ups went into the hall for tea and cake. The children then took to the race track to run individual sprint events and a team relay. Even the Mums and Dads joined in with a race of their own. The winning continent was Asia with only 5 points in it. Everyone had a fantastic morning – well done to all participants and FoBFS for helping out with the refreshments.

To celebrate the wonderful children at BFS and to showcase the amazing resilience and strength that each and every one radiates, each class held craft sessions and produced some fantastic work to represent how they feel about being a “military child”. The children did some wonderful artwork of dandelions that are representative of a military child in that the seeds are sown and then flourish wherever they land – just like our wonderful military children. The day was made even more special with a fabulous hotdog picnic organised by the FoBFS team. Thank you to everyone who made the day so wonderful and for our fantastic children for just being themselves.

The school were very privileged to welcome the US Naval Forces Europe and Africa “Maritime Winds” Woodwind Quintet band to conduct an assembly for the staff and pupils of BFS Naples. The event was kindly organised by the Vice Chairman of the SGC, Sgt Mark Botterill. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the musical performance and a very informative Q&A was held afterwards. Thank you to our American friends for taking the time to visit us and impart their fantastic musical skills. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
